Front for Höganäs Keramik

Wednesday 15 September 2010

Swedish design trio Front have collaborated with Swedish ceramic company Höganäs Keramik to create a utilitarian ceramic collection inspired by Höganäs's extensive back catalogue of vintage designs.

Drawing on their own childhood memories of the classical Swedish Höganäskruset, Front set about designing a collection of functional pieces intended for everyday use. The set includes a tea pot, mugs, bowls and a candlestick, all finished in a variety of mismatched glazes, sizes and pastel and primary colours.

A household name across Sweden, Höganäs Keramik hold a prestigious manufacturing history. They have been creating ceramics since 1909 using clay mined from Kullaberg; a small town outside of Höganäs on the West coast of Sweden. The collection follows the recent trend for nostalgic products that place emphasis on process and origin.

Launching this month, the pieces are the first in a long line of planned collaborations between Front and Höganäs Keramik, who have announced plans to follow up the inaugural collection with a range of plates and ovenware in 2011.

The collection confirms WGSN's Fair and Square macro trend for Summer 2011, where functionality is key to the development process; striking a balance between simplicity and quality.
